Sun Visors, What's In There?

Thought y'all might be interested in the visor guts.

Shipped my puffy sun visors to Vinyl Specialties for restoration, but called first to see if they needed anything beyond the frames. They didn't so I thought I carefully cut mine open to see what is in there. There is potential for a DIY solution, but VS does incredible work at a incredible price, way easier than I could. I'll just wrap these and put them in the 911 parts archive save box.

Wondered about that... Thanks for the pictures. And the mention of Vinyl Specialties... Didn't know there was a restoration option.

Yes, I have been debating about sunvisors in the Targa, as they are pretty puffy. Any pictures of restored ones?

I have a very good set of black that I took out of my cab. How much are they asking for a restoration of your cores?

They did mine a few years ago. $75.00. Quick turnaround and high quality. Beats the marshmallow puffy original worn out ones on my Targa.

Thanks for the show and tell, I will have to keep their name in mind, my sunvisors are like marshmallows.

It is these guys I assume.

Vinyl Specialties --- Interior Auto Sunvisors

How close to original do they get the visors, can you tell from originals?

Different from original. Flat, seams are sewn on three sides. Check out their website, it shows what they look like.

Sorry for the slow reply, yeah, they do great work that I've seen on Pelican and in person.

I'm not sure how I could have pulled off a neat, professional looking job for that cost, not counting the experiments and angst involved.

I saved my remains mostly to save the mirrors and document the restoration, but they aren't something that can be easily or neatly glued back on. Heck, one mirror in the middle can handle rear view and makeup checks just fine!

When I get mine back I'll add to this post.

93Nav, seems the hardest part is figuring out a way to get around the mounting points with a sewing machine or some type of heat seal.....very tough.

VS did a great job on mine. They look great. Not 100% OEM look but so good it doesn't matter.

Only downside is you lose the mirror in the pass side - NBD to me but my wife always makes a little face when she's riding shotgun and wants to adjust her look :-D

Restoration complete

My sun visors arrived today, can't agree more with everyone, not 100 per cent factory but that is all but impossible to duplicate without great effort. If you hadn't seen a original set you might not know the difference.

Vinyl Specialties did a outstanding job, every detail is clean, tight and straight.

And..... a $ steal in my book.

I highly recommend them!

I'm just wondering - has anyone ordered any visors from Porsche Classic? They are pricey - $200 for the passenger side with mirror, but are new OEM. (It also appears that they only have the right-side visor available, with mirror.)

Sunvisors in a Targa: wear a ball cap and take the visors out. Much nicer.

I've contacted Vinyl Specialties regarding refurbishing the visors in my 82 SC. Mine are a dark brown and I've been unable to find replacements. Anyone had them re-do brown visors?

Just sent my brown visors to Vinyl Specialties last week. I don't expect it to be in the original Cadbury Brown but as long as it is close I'll be satisfied. I've heard only good reviews on this company.

Note: Just noticed this thread is 1-1/2 years old.

Sun Visors, What's In There?

Despite being a somewhat antiquated thread, I’m blown away that there are no inexpensive solutions since 1.5 yrs ago that fit correctly. It’s really weird frankly.
