Longhood seat advice

I have a 72 targa with original seats. The drivers seat cushion has collapsed (accident long time ago) and there are rips in both seats. I'm changing the door panel to the RS style and originally wanted to put replica sport seats -- until I sat in one. I'm almost 6 ft, 200 lbs and the steering wheel was almost to my knees, I did not like it. Am I missing something? Has anyone made the switch and loved it? I have front and rear sway bars and also vintage race, so I'll drive it fairly spirited. Should I go with sport seats, any other recommendations or just rebuild what I have?

I had a set of real sport seats in my 73 and never had a problem with my knees hitting the steering wheel. I'm 6'2" and 200 lb. Can you put the pic and brand of the seats of the seats you tried? Another option would be to with a Momo prototipo style steering wheel as at 350mm they are smaller in diameter than a factory wheel.

If you like what you have, it’s easy to fix the sag.

I had factory spirt seats in my 69S and they were ok for me.

But for a great seat, I have late 70’s recaro LS-C’s in my 72, they fit me very well are super comfortable and very light weight.

Your current "comfort" seats (that's what they are really called) are great for normal street driving, but will not hold in place for spirited driving or track days or auto-x. For that you need seats with much more support.

Lots of big guys drive some type of sports seat in their 911's.
Some research and trial should get you what you are after.

I also have a 1972 911T targa. I have a set of sport seats and a set of comfort seats. I currently run a driver-side sport seat seat and a passenger-side comfort seat. I love the sport seat and can’t stand the lack of support of the comfort seat. My significant other likes what she calls the ‘couch’ seat as a passenger.

I’m 6’-2” and 210 lbs and don’t have any issue with the sport seat. Stock wheel, stock seat rails, etc.
