Need help mounting amplifier in trunk
 

I am in the process of installing a new stereo system and am wondering how others have mounted an amplifier in the trunk. I would have preferred to mount the amp under the seat but it is too large (12" X 26"). As heavy as this amp is, I want to make sure that it is securely fastened.

Can anybody supply me with details regarding their installation. Any pictures ?

If you still have A/C in the Porsche mounting the amp directly to trunk floor will limit your access to the smuggler box to service (?) the a/c unit.

I have seen some autocrossers mount their stereo amps to a plywood cut to fit their trunk. The plywood is covered with the carpet that is used on some of those sub woofer box. Every wire has a disconnect so that they can quickly remove the amps for autocross and replace it afterward.

I recently added an amp of similar dimensions to my car. I mounted it to a peice of plywood, and then mounted that to the fibre board that covers the blowers (in front of the firewall). In order to simplify the occassional dismounting of the amp, I used self tapping thread insert that I put into the plywood, thus allowing me to use a bolt to install/deinstall the amp.

My amplifier was originally installed on a piece of plywood mounted on top of the smuggler's box. I don't recommend that. Was forever in the way. I moved it to the right side of the trunk. It works fine there, is out of the way (saw a picture of someone's here on Pelican), but there is a caveat. Could only screw on at the top, as screws at the bottom will pierce the wheel well. Apparently it's 2 layers at the top. I then pulled the carpet over the plywood and screwed the amplifier to the plywood through the carpet...has a nice "finished" look.
