Help - PMOs surging at idele when hot.

I just got back from Hershey. It was a nice long ride on a beautiful day. Outside of an idle surge, Phoenix performed flawlessly.

After 2 hours of stright highway driving the car surges to 2,000 sometimes 3,000 rpms when just touching the throttle or when depressing the clucth to shift from say first to second? It did this all the way home through the slow streets of my town. At an intersection it woudl just sit at between 2-3000 and between each shift jump back up again only to drop once teh clutch is engaged.

Can anyone help me chase this down? She doesn't do this at all when cold?

(2.4, PMO's, 55 idle jets, Electromotive ignition)

Like TIM says; something is binding in your throttle linkage somewhere... it could be in a lot of places.
I suggest that you take the link loose at the firewall, remove the spring tension, and make sure the motion is free and easy.
One area that I recall having trouble with is the ball ends of the two sockets for the large parallel arm that goes between the two carb banks. Make sure this moves very freely with no extra loose or tight areas... it could also be underneath, by the tranny, where the link hooks up. Check closely at that point too.

Good Luck...

Thanks for the tips guys.

I guess I should have explained my situation a bit better. I recently had a new throttle cable installed as well as made sure all motion is free and clear. I even filed out/ elongated the area in the engine bay where the cable disappears into the body.

The curiosity here is that this only occurs once the motor has been driven a while and is hot (just around 180). When it's cold... nothing?

Idle surge could be an intake leak (well, it happened to me on a different car).
