Anyone in the PNW doing dry ice blasting?

I have a 25K 89 Carrera survivor that I would like to clean the undercarriage via dry ice blasting. Anyone in the PNW doing that?

I'm in Eugene, haven't seen any indication of that. Any more details so I can track it down?

VU does vapor blasting, but I don't think they do dry ice blasting.

Check with the disaster restoration companies in your area. (Think ServiceMaster or ServPro). They sometimes use dry ice or soda blasting. If they don’t they might be able to point you in the right direction.

They do use it a lot for mold eradication. It does a fantastic job on auto undercarriages, I was hoping someone in Seattle or Portland was doing it. I am not familiar with vapor blasting.

Vapor blasting is a gentler replacement for sand or glass bead blasting. Not the same thing at all.

Roger that. I have a vapor blast cabinet- and it rocks. I have a client that’s sells and rents dry ice blasting equipment. Quite different, more of a cleaning process, where vapor honing will profile a surface depending on what media is used.

All I have to contribute is that I did a trial run on dry ice blasting on my '89 Carrera and they had a heck of a time getting down to bare metal. They found that the paint was tougher than the norm and wanted a lot of money to do the car....so much so that I went back to conventional plastic bead blast and could not be happier except for the need to vacuum out every crevice in the car for a couple of days to get the extra beads out of there.

You may want to have them do a check panel.....

The dry ice blasting I am referring to is for cleaning purposes only. There have been past contributors in other parts of the country that have posted results of cleaning undercarriages and they look like they just came out of the factory. Was trying to discover if anyone was doing in the PNW.

be careful with dry ice blasting. There was a LOT of damage to my car. Still sufffering from it. If it sound too good to be true then it may not be the miracle cure you were hoping for.

I think what tailwind22 is talking about is the following:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYtQQBYdMQo

or this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1WEfIAChJ0

Very gentle and only removes dirt, grease, etc.
It shouldn't remove metal.
If it is done right and the correct process, there shouldn't be any damage to anything underneath.
Won't hurt rubber or plastic.

CryoDetail is a name of one of these companies that specializes in this.

Yes that is the process. Looks like the YT poster is in So. Cali. Wondering if anyone is doing in the PNW?

And it looks like the is a "huge and important" difference between companies that use dry ice for detailing cars and those that use it as an abrasive media option for industrial cleaning instead of sand blasting, bead blasting, etc. The latter companies will definitely tear up your car using dry ice as they are not experienced in the pressures and techniques needed for detailing the undercarriage of Porsches.
