Do I need the AC condenser crash bar??
I'm deleting AC from my 80 SC... took out the AC condenser underneath the front bumper. Do I need to/should I keep the crash bar?
Part is circled in yellow in attached picture!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1611082228.jpg |
yah keep it .it does not weigh too much ..

Removing A/C - I'd say take it off. It's worth at least 5 more MPH!
|
I would keep it on,
Mine has helped prevent damage a few times. |
I'd keep it
I hit the tabs even when careful on occasions Hate to look under car and see the scrapes w.o it on ac deleted or not |
I would remove it ! Then you will go at least 0-60 in 6.6 seconds!!!

No AC here, but use mine as a curb feeler more often than I'd like to admit.

it saved crushing my front valance so often. especially when you have a lowered car (even at EU ride height). a Turbo-lip will hide it. |
Yea, it does not weigh much, and it will save potential expensive damage. Look at the bar on there now. See all the scrape marks and damage? That is what it protected the car from so far.
|
Keep it. You want to leave weight in the front of the car and remove it from the rear. Generally.
|
Ok will keep it on. Have the valance off for spoiler install... assuming it covers the bar up/there is no interference I'll let it ride.

I deleted my ac and I removed the bar. If you remove the condenser and the screen, the bar protects nothing. Make sure you make a block off plate for the condenser blower hole. My bar was untouched, you are not supposed to use the car as a curb feeler. My car is slightly lower than Euro height and the first thing that hits is the front rubber spoiler. I also used it as an opportunity to clean up those front suspension bushing covers as well. BTW, my bar weighed 1.92 lbs. and total weight savings for the ac delete was 54 lbs.

The bar is below and slightly behind the valence, so I don't see how it protects the valence. Things you hit with the bar... you won't hit if you don't have the bar. that's my thinking. |
DOH
Been too long since I was under my car Great point Thx |

if you have a turbo lip it will be hidden nicely. sure, when you ram smt that is higher (e.g. a curb) then the valance will be damaged. but driving up/down a ramp that is too steep or similar, it will save you, trust me |
You don’t need it until you scrape somewhere.
