Problem getting to steering coupler

Hi,

I’m doing tons of things to improve the steering and want to inspect the steering coupler just above the steering rack.
It is covered by a plastic funnel like cover and I can’t disengage from the connection to be able to remove the cover and inspect replace the coupler.
How is this done?

Much appreciated.

You can access the universal joint from the smugglers box in the trunk. Though to get all that out you may have to remove the rack.

Remove the rack, along with the shaft below the lower u-joint.

Ok, removed.
Is this considered worn?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1611539526.jpg

I found the new one looks like mine, should those holes be bigger then the metal inserts?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1611546216.jpg

Replacement rubber is not expensive. I would replace it.

Ok but I have Porsche oem coupler now.
Uro is 46 bucks oem is 117 usd eith shipping snd conversion it’s coming to $200cad, so it is expensive:
I just want to know if the metal tubes should be snug agains the coupler openings or loose?

Thank you

the metal inserts should sit tight in rubber, no play.
