Dash knee pad fit?

I have a 77 911s and wanted to make some changes inside. Does the long hood cars dash knee pad line up and bolt on?
Wanting to bypass the center coin cigarettes folding thing and also removing the foam center trim. Just want to know if the studs line up the same as later car knee pads. Thanks.

I considered your proposed mod for my ‘78 based RST build back in ~2014. It’s been a long time but seem to recall that the knee pads outer ends on the ‘77 are quite different compared to the long hood so the pads will not match the underlying sheet metal. I also did some pricing of the solid one piece pad and abandoned the project as the best I could do was USD$400 plus shipping and still would need recovering to match my brown interior.
I’m now tossing around the idea of removing the vinyl, welding the three pieces together noting the requisite spacing and recovering in matching brown leather. I did also contemplate adding some padding but then noted that there isn’t enough room for it because of the tight swing of the glove box. Maybe next winter....got enough projects for now.
Cheers,
Johan

Thanks for your valuable input. I’m in the middle of figuring out the best way forward. I’ll ditch the idea of one piece from long hood cars and probably remove the threaded tabs, remove the required thickness in foam, and reattach the threaded tabs back. This is my problem, the foam dash trim I’ve removed is integral in the way bit all fits together. If I do this though I’ll also need to remove a bit of the ends that wrap around and under the dash because it looks like it’ll be too thick to overcome the .20” loss in thickness. It’s pretty tough to decide which way to go on this. Each way is kind of a no way back deal.

quattrorunner,
I have also been considering switching to a one-piece knee pad on my '75, but I also haven't been able confirm if an older 1 piece fits.

I have been considering the Rennline lower dash that sells for $200 and wrapping in vinyl as another option.

There are a few threads about other Pelicans making one, but very few details on how they did it.

Good luck and please post anything you come up with.
