Power seats install in a non-powered set up
 

Looking for advice on changing my current seats (non-powered) to power. I have base ‘84 911 and am looking to replace my original seats with GTS Classics Sport S. With those being made, I’d like to switch to power seats.

What wiring needs to be in place and if it is, is it “plug and play”?
Would the assembly need to be 911, or could it be another Porsche vehicle?

You need to look for a connector like the one circled in green in the photo (sorry for the poor quality photo). My '87 had a power seat on driver's side and manual on the passenger. On the driver side it had the plug you see in the photo - looks kind of like a domino tile - the passenger side had the wires (no plug) isolated with electrical tape and clipped down below the passenger seat- not sure if that was factory or something done by a P.O.
I think the 911's, 928's and 944's of that era used the same connectors (not positive about that though). That connector has all the power for full power seat with seat heaters... the seat uses what it needs based on the features.

I put Boxster seats with the power recline into my '75 Targa. I found a couple empty fuse points on my fusebox and ran heavy gauge wiring under the carpet and to the vicinity of the seats. I replaced/rewired the original connectors on the seats with some large-gauge Molex connectors and installed mating connectors on the new wiring.

I installed a pair of 1987 944 Turbo power seats in my 1975 911 S. I ran fused power from the fuse block under the carpet. The seat bolted right in. Obviously these seats are heavier than the non powered versions, but swapping the seats is pretty straightforward.
