901 transmission for dummy’s

Hey guys. Just started my 912 project from a roller I bought. Looking to find a 901 transmission and have a couple questions regarding versions of the 901.

First question. 901 from a 914. Obviously the orientation is wrong. Is this something that can be easily changed ?

2) Side shift or tail shift? I’ve seen both. Which does a 911/912 use. Or is that a 914 exclusive and I’d question 1 happens which one would I need.

3) 911/912 transaxle cases are a common thing. For cheap. Is there any cost benefit to buying a empty case then buying all the gears to rebuild it. Seems more expensive since inflation of part prices but curious opinions on this.

Thanks
