Synchronizing Convertible Top

The '89 911 Cabrio I recently purchased has a top that "is not in sync". That's what the seller told me. The top was down. The locks were turned loose to enable manual control of the top. When I got home I put the top up (manually) and I hit the convertible top button and it locked down. So, what should I do now ?? Should I try tightening the lock bolts up in this position and see if it works or is there some other method of doing this. The Bentley book doesn't cover this topic. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks,
Bill

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!!!!!!

If you tighten the bolts be very carful about trying to raise the roof, with the fear that an out of sync roof control may snap the cross members.

What may have happened, as has happened to my 86, is the the gearbox on one side became loose and the gears separated from the drive shaft causing a mis-alignment, when it re-engaged. Take it very slowly in indentifying and trying to rectify the situation. Heres hoping all the gearboxes and motors in the lifting equipment is ok -or big $$$.
