Distributor difference 2.4 and 2.7 engine
Hi,
In the Porsche workshop manual there seems to be no difference between the advance curve of the 2.4 and 2.7 distributors (mechanical and vacuum retard). Can I conclude that a 2.7 engine distributor fits a 2.4 engine (besides the rpm cut out of the rotor)? I ask this because in Germany the 2.7 distributors are readily available and not very expensive (or shall I say less expensive?). Peter 911 2.4S |

Peter,
The '74/'75/'76 'European' 2.7 Carrera distributor I got from PMO has Bosch part number 0.231.184.004 ... and is an updated, later production version of the '73 RS 2.7 distributor ... complete with 7300 rpm rev limiter. The advance curve is a bit more agressive than the 2.4 'S' distributor ... but will work just fine in your engine when timing is set to 0° [Z1] at 900 rpm with vacuum line connected, or 10° BTDC with vac. line disconnected. The 2.7 CIS distributor is the one with specs identical to the '72 - '73 911T distributor, and would also work in your engine with a replacement 7300 rpm rotor.
