What is the single best instrument for CIS tuning?
What instrument is the best investment for tuning my CIS? With my limited experience trying to get my SC running right, I'm thinking a gas analyzer. Others have suggested a fuel pressure guage.
Should I just pay the money to have it dialed in professionally? |
For diagnosing problems the gauges are great. I don't think you can do it without the gauges. How long are you going to keep the CIS? If it is a while, then you should invest in the gauges if you are handy. Then you will need the CO meter

A CIS test setup would not be complete without a fuel pressure tester. Cowtown started a thread on the JC Whitney tester.
I have a vacuum guage too! Cheap at your local parts store. A good timing light ~$50 at Sears with a dial advance. A 3MM long allen for mixture setting. A mulitmeter. CIS manuals (free on the internet..just search) All have paid for themselves time and time again. But the CIS pressure tester is great and the best to have. CO tester is next for me. |
Where do you get a reasonably priced CO meter?

Gas Tester
Do a web search for the Gunison GasTester. It is a single gas (CO) tester that usually sells for about $100-130. I bought one a couple years ago and have found that it works as advertized and is easy to use. You MUST follow the instructions to get accurate readings. Other than the Gunison, the closest priced tester that I could find was about $500.
