Front seat belt length

Hi All

I just purchased an '87 911 Targa, and the front seat belts (driver and passenger) seem to be too short. I'm only 5'8" so I need to have the seat forward a ways for good pedal operation. I also like to have a relatively upright seatback for driving, but even on the passenger side with the seat all the way back and moderately reclined it's still tight.

Also, I made sure to carefully pull them out to full length just to make sure they weren't hanging up/locking anywhere in the travel.

So, are the factory belts just plain short? And are aftermarket belts usually a longer length for greater adjustability? I've looked at the PEParts site and the reel looks to have quite a bit of belt on it.

Thanks for any assistance and these forums are the best!

I measured mine last month and the ones that were in my car were about 100" long from the real to the end.

There has to be something different about your belts. I'm close to your height (5'-8 3/4") and if I sit in a car with the seat far enough forward that my knees hit the dash and my head hits the roof, I still have more than enough belt length. 928.803.126.10 is the Porsche part number on the stock front belts. This number will be on a tag at the bottom of the belt.

Thanks! I'll see what they measure out to and check the part number.

If anyone has any other suggestions, let me know.

I'm about your height,

5-7

weight around 190...

-I have plenty of room, probably an extra 12in at least of travel once the belt is on. I did repace my drivers side belt a while back because it kept folding and getting coiled up, I found that I had to take it apart and re-wind it to get it straight. If it's all twisted it may be snagged and yet not seem like it's caught because the twist can be near the end of the belt.

Are there longer belts available ?
I'm not a small guy but fit comfortable in my 79 SC.
But the belt does not allow any movement at all.
I can barely latch it and barely reach the key.
I have the seat all the way back but would like to move it up a bit.

I changed out my driver's seat belt last fall with an aftermarket belt and it was significantly shorter than the factory original. I believe the aftermarket seatbelts usually come with their own receivers which look different than the factory receivers. Compare yours with pictures of the factory receivers.

Do you have a link and / or part number(s) you can share?

One thing I’ve always wondered about but never got around to measuring was whether or not belts from another model, for instance a 928, would be longer than those in a 911.

The 928 and the 911 have the exact same belt (including part number). I've installed 928 belts in a 911. They are the same.

Well, there goes that theory. I always thought that my 928 had much longer seat travel than any of my 911s, thus the question.
