weber float level adjustment question
I need to adjust the float level on my 40 IDA webers. I've borrowed a PMO float level gauge and the instructions say I need shim the needle valve to raise the float level.
In Tomlinson's weber tech book however, he says the float level is adjusted by bending the tang on the float itself. Is the PMO prodcedure for PMO carbs only, will either method work on my webers ? 'sup? ![]()

I broke down and did a search. Seems like both methods will work but since I don't have any shims I'll probably go for the bending the tang route. Anyone have any more advice?

I set mine during reassembly. Made the little measuring gadget, and set it to the appropriate height. Probably the only way to mess up would be too much force.

Bending the float tang may only get you real close. In actual practice with the engine running, the external PMO float gauge provides a more accurate picture of the fuel level. Use the gauge to monitor and the float seat shims to adjust the correct running fuel level.

IMHO bending the tab is just a pain as the top cover of the carb would have to come off. I did the bending the tab procedure when I was rebuilding the carbs using measurements in a weber carb book. They were close afterwards and I only needed a few minor shim adjustments. Overall, shims are definately easier if the carbs are on the car still and not going through a rebuild.
