1975 Porsche Hardtop Targa Photo Thread
I understand that there were only 235 hardtop targas shipped to North America. Here is a picture of mine, in the interest of finding out how many have survived.

Here is a photo (hard top is behind the seat)

In 1974 the hard top was the standard top on the targas unless the car was specifically ordered with the M436 option. The hardtop continued partway through 1975 and then was discontinued, going back to the folding top only.
I'm curious where you got that number. That's not usually the kind of statistic Porsche tracks internally.

I can't imagine they are that rare since we have seen many, many sell here over the years (unless they are the same one being resold).

He also told me that Mr. Gemballa had bought all of the remaining hardtops from Porsche when they had discontinued them. Also in 1993 when apparently Gemballa's company crashed, the company that Roland Kunz worked for bought the remaining stock of which there were 10. Too bad Roland Kunz is no longer around, he was a wealth of knowledge.

Retired, finally

Not a '75, but I just acquired a '77 that had a hardtop installed by a PO. I could use some help trying to get the darn thing off, as one of the fasteners seems to be kind of buggered.

My '75 has a hard top. I make no claim or assertion to originality. Much on the vehicle is not original including the carbed 2.2 powerplant. Sorry no pics of the top on the car. I rarely have it on, last time was at least 4 years ago.

I have a '75 Targa with the factory hard-top. Will post picture later.
Mine is painted black and has a light texture on the top which appears to make it look similar to the soft top. I notice that some of the hard tops pictured above are painted body color and appear to have a glossy finish. Which was the "standard" from Porsche? Were the hard tops painted the body color from the factory?

My understanding they all came black from the factory.
Painting them the color of the car is an after delivery task done by the owner. They come with the pebble texture of the soft top and would require serious sanding to get smooth finish

Got one on my 83. Love it. Quiet and solid. Found in junk yard. Happy happy happy. Also mine is almost smooth and was considering vinyl or body color now.

Porsche only made them for about a year.
The 911 came out with power brakes shorly after that and the hardop would no longer fit in the trunk because of the booster, so they discontinued it. There was/is an aftermarket company that has sold thousands of them which are very lightweight, unlike the Porsch unit. |
