I didn't see them in the photos above, but I'm hoping that you welded in the reinforcement mounts before installing the gas tank support panel.

Stitched on and then goobered up. I epoxy primed under everything and then sanded areas to be welded, applied weld through primer and welded on. I did this with the pieces welded in as well.

Man, this is so cool. You guys are nothing short of artists, and patient ones at that. I wish I were nearby, I could lend a hand, bring beer and provide ample moral support! Keep it coming guys!

Thanks! Would be nice to drink a beer and work on it with someone that knows about them.

Did some work on a cnc lathe at a shop today and they let me blast some of the suspension components and they offered to powder coat them as well! They should be done by Monday.

I am in a pickle though…I’m replacing all rubber on the front end and can’t decide on replacing the strut inserts. My current adjustable Koni 8641 1039 struts “feel” fine but the receivers had about 4 ounces of oil in each….(…I’ve been reading on what they can be replaced with and it seems like koni sports with the locating stud on the bottom is the only choice. I thought the oil could be from someone before me replacing leaking struts and not removing the oil but if I’m replacing everything and getting it aligned then I might as well toss 400 bones at a new set.

Can anyone touch on this?

Good to see that you have the reinforcements welded in - I would hate to have been the one to break the bad news to you :).

Regarding the oil in the Konis - yes, it's there to help cool the insert by conducting the heat from the insert to the outer strut housing. The Konis in my '77 had the oil in there as well. I forget the amount (50ml?), but if you search you can find how much should be in there when you go to re-assemble.

Awesome. Thanks for the info Frankc.

Here’s a picture of how some of the powder coating came out.

Lookin' good. Btw, did you intentionally leave those front tow hooks bent over like that?
