Carrera 3.2L Spark Plug Wires - WHICH ONES TO CHOSE?

Why are there 2 different sets, with 2 different part numbers and 2 different prices for a Carrera 3.2L?

$245.75:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/0300890183.htm?pn=0300890183-INT&SVSVSI=0810&DID=70585

$278.50
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/108533606.htm?pn=10-8533-606-M47&SVSVSI=0810&DID=11573

What are the differences? Any idea?

I wouldn't buy either one. New Beru stuff is junk. Unless you enjoy fishing tiny parts of plug wire internals (springs and resistors) out of your cylinder heads with an inspection camera.

My experience was with early model wires. 2 sets. 1 returned, 1 thrown out in disgust. The Carrera wires might be different but the spark plug ends are possibly the same.

I ended up going with Clewett wires and haven't looked back.

Another vote for Clewett. Made in USA and good quality. Be aware that they will not fit in the stock wire holders on the shroud etc without modification or you can do like I did and buy the 8mm holders offered by our host

is this the 8mm wire separator you are talking about?

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/CE919118.htm?pn=CE-9191-18&bt=Y&fs=0&SVSVSI=810

I ask because it looks like a 2 wire, instead of 3

Have a set of Clewett on the way too. Would love to see a pic of how the stock separators are drilled out to fit...

I'm no longer sure Beru is the best for our cars since seeing differences in the connectors.

beware of Beru Plug Connectors

Those are the ones. I ran them staggered like this. I didn't know or think about drilling out the old ones at the time but these work OK for me.

Thanks Pedro '84 Coupe. Where did you get that curved bracket that they bolt to? Did you make it?

Interesting. I'll have to go down stairs and look later. I don't think mine has it. Anyway, you are the best. Thank you so much!

So any chance you have the part number for item 17 and 18? Nevermind, I found it. I was looking at the wrong year document.

I just took the stock brackets and clamped them into a vice and used a cordless drill with the proper sized bit and opened up the holes a bit.

The metal bracket is unique to 1984, 1985 and onwards the wire routing changed.

Thanks Kurt. My engine is from an 86, so that makes sense.

Maybe an obvious question, buy how do you separate the stock wire loom brackets to get them off the plug wires to enlarge them and put them on the Clewett wires? Do they just pry apart? I am worried about breaking them. Thanks

Just put a set of Clewett wires on our 84. Our car is not a restoration, but I wanted to use the stock separators and follow the same path to keep an original look.

As mentioned in several threads that requires drilling out the looms to fit the fatter Clewett wires. I used a 5/16” drill and that came out just right to grip the wire and still be able to close the pieces up.

The boots are a bit bulkier and the wires thicker, so I couldn’t get happy with the 3 hole separator near the distributor for cyls 1,2,3. Used the smaller Clewett 2-hole clips, and it worked a bit better. It’s hidden by the heat tube, so no big deal.

Overall pretty happy with the set. Wires 4,5,6 are a little long, so I tucked them up under the intake. If there’s a better way, please advise...

Work carefully with a screwdriver to pry up the end tabs and then the center pins to split them apart. I was concerned that old brittle plastic might break, but they all survived.

are the 8mm considered to be much of an upgrade?
