New options for 245/45/16

Looks like there are now a lot of options for 245s for our 8 and 9 inch Fuchs

Still 2 to 3 times more than they used to be.

I like tires with a rim strip. Both Pirellis seem to have it.

We have had that Yokohama Advan 52 for some time in Germany.
Will last about 4000+ km/one season
if you go hard on it its toast after one trackday

It's a shame they don't make that AD08-RS in 245

That is the reason why so many go directly for the Toyo Proxess R888-R

We can say that it's a shame "they" don't do this or that. I, on the other hand, celebrate the choices we now have. As we all should. I say buy early and buy often gentlemen!

Can vouch the A052 wears quickly. But it's fairly quiet, is ok in the wet for what that tread pattern looks like, and is oh so sticky for AX, yet fun at the limit. If they weren't so pricey I'd recommend them to the weekend warrior / canyon carver / AX types.

Interesting..
How would you compare it to the RE71R?

I’m super excited for the A008’s. Always loved that tire...maybe it’s time to sell off the euromeisters and out my 16” 7’s and 8’s back on the hot rod 3.6.

My personal opinion is that the manufacturers recognized that only 911 owners were ordering, small demographic and ripe for a Porsche tax increase.

I fondly remember A008s from the 80s and 90s, love that square shoulder. This is the last summer for my RE11s and will probably go with the A008s unless I do something crazy with 15" of 16" ultrawide wheels.

The Yok has more lateral grip, way more longitudinal grip, much more progressive breakaway. Not as razor sharp on turn in, though. Softer sidewall, for better or worse. Runs wider per given size. Likes more negative camber. Is more particular about temperature. Doesn't like to be pinched (wide tire on narrow wheel) which is likely related to the sidewall comment.

Holy scheiss! $270/$220/$321/$285 per tire?! I suppose it's a reflection of market size (or lack thereof), but that's incredible!

Taken from the Tire Rack listing:

check prices for AVON race tires… EUR 300-400 per tire (USD rate ~1,20)

What I'm ultimately after if I can widen to 12" and stuff these CanAm wheels in the back. Insanely expensive, yes, but might be worth it if I can get 2 years out of them.

Wow!! Talk about a thorough answer!!!!

When it comes to temperature, I am often battling cold temps and tires. Does the Yokohama have an issue with cold, or hot?

I'm not in a Treadwear regulated class so could go from my RE71Rs (225/45-17 on 7" Euromeisters widened to 8" and 255/40-17 on 9") to a "faster" tire but I like the RE71R's an awful lot. I had my eye on the R888R more than anything.

Well, the RE71R is discontinued, they stopped printing tires in late '19 I think, so you'll have to come up with something quick. All stock out there is getting old enough that it might not be worth it buying them new anymore.

I haven't tried them yet, but looks like the Falken RT550 seems to be a nice sidestep for RE71R fans. Again, softer sidewall so don't pinch, and not as razor sharp, but fairly similar otherwise - and the price is right. I don't know what they like yet temp wise, unfortunately.

The Yok works well at cold and is ok at hot, but a lot of people report that they seem to have one "magic" run per day in AX, or one magic lap on the track. If the clock is super important, there's a little inconsistency that's frustrating to the really nit picky folk. I'm picky, but I'm not that picky and haven't noticed.

I can say from experience the BFG Rival S hates cold.

They R888R is a great choice for track days, but I suspect you'll have issues at AX with them. If there was only one tire that did everything well, was cheap, lasted long, and came in the oddball sizes that only we seem to want...
