'85 front wheel bearings
I'm repacking the front wheel bearings on my '85. So, I will also install new wheel bearing grease seals.
On page 401-11 of the Bentley manual, item no.'s 13 and 14 in the illustration are labeled Spacer and O-ring. I don't see these on my hubs. On page 401-14, these 2 items are also shown but not numbered. Is my car missing something? Thanks. ![]() ![]()

They almost look like part of the spindle. Probably still on

Those parts are on the spindle, it's the wear surface for the inner seal you are replacing. They are press fit on the spindle and don't need to come off unless damaged.

You can see it in the below thread pretty well. They are not easy to remove from the spindle, need a long two jaw puller. I'm replacing mine as I got my struts re-powdercoated. When I pulled mine off, I found that one spindle had the o-ring, the other did not.
Anyways, don't need to remove/replace these unless you are getting your struts powdercoated or if you see a lot of leaky grease from behind the spindle. O-Ring for Front Wheel Spindle

Yes, with some cleaning and closer inspection, they appear to be part of the spindle. Thanks.

If you decide to replace them you can tap from the back side with a small drift tool.

I have never had problems just tapping on the backside with a drift. If stubborn I have applied a little heat with propane. For a street car I wouldn't bother.

Thanks to all for your replies. I see no reason to replace them. The surface looks smooth enough to effectively accept the grease seal.
