Rear heater blower fan, it's on but I can barely feel airflow at the windshield vent
Hi Guys,
I have installed a new rear blower fan, I pulled the lever all the way up and on it went with the engine not running. I can hardly feel any air coming out of the defrost vents, Does the car need to be running for it to have more effect or is it really that useless? I have the top two control levers to the left and the bottom one to the right. It's just a motor only replacement sold here. Phil |
You should have god air flow, however with the engine running you will get more air.
Are both of your heater boxes working properly? Are both heater tubes hooked up and not torn? |
Both boxes working and new heater tubes untorn and hooked up. I think I'll disconnect the return tubes at the motor and feel how much head there is. I really get miserable flow, if you say it should be good airflow with the engine off then something doesn't add up.

Rod.
Have you checked the rod between the servo motor,
and the linkage/flappers? Gerry |
1981 SC should have mentioned.
I just looked up servo motor, is that for the automatic heat? mine is manual. As for the linkage flappers, the fresh air defrost works well with the front fan but I'm not sure about the heater flappers. How do I check these? I think I'll get my shop vac and hopefully blow a little more air into the engine bay feeder tubes and see if it comes out strong at the windshield vents, I hope I don't blow the lines off. I also went in back and disconnected the two heat feeder tubes and blocked one at a time and checked the airflow in the cabin, both sides are the same, crummy. It's unlikely that both side heater tubes and boxes are somehow messed up as I just put new tubes in and the boxes were fine, so I think those are okay. I also checked the head in the engine bay by disconnecting the feeder tubes again right at the blower and then blocking one and feeling how much air it can push, I don't know, it seems marginal at best, I doubt it has the head to push all the way in front. I bought the partheaven replacement fan because the last one bit the dust, has anyone tried this fan and had good airflow on it's own? Phil |
