1984 factory alarm specs
Just bought a 1984 3.2 Targa. The PO installed an aftermarked alarm system, with wires everywhere, which i just removed (had not been in use for years)
The car does have the factory alarm option, with a key in the door jamb. Since i really like to keep stuff original, does anyone know how the factory alarm was supposed to work? Does it need to be manually armed/disarmed? Which sensors does it have? How can i figure out if its still there? (i do not have the key for it) |

I have an 84 Carrera with the factory alarm. You have to manually arm and disarm it with the key. The instructions in the owner's manual are very simple and it also talks about the sensors. If you don't have a manual, let me know and I'll send you a photo of that page.

If you don't have the key for the factory alarm, but you figure out a way to get a replacement, I'd love to know about it. In the twenty years since I got my 83, I have not been able to replace the missing alarm key.

Just happened to have my '84 manual out, and so here you go (I've never tried my alarm, as I suspect it will turn into another project and I've got too many others ...):

I have one in my 83 & it works. Someone moved the horn to the engine compartment instead of next to the fuel pump. Mine sounds if the engine lid or a door is opened not the frunk. With the horn in the engine compartment, the horn is barely audible.
I was told it also cuts off the fuel pump relay but Ive not tested that. Last edited by AlKidd; 03-15-2021 at 07:55 AM.. |
