Wipers will not turn off

My 1987 911 Carrera wipers would not turn off. I was initially reluctant to replace the wiper switch as a troubleshooting measure because of it's $200-$260 nonrefundable cost. So I tried to exhaust the cheaper measures I found on the forums first by cleaning the switch with electrical contact cleaner, rechecking & cleaning electrical connections & grounds then removing & dissembling the wiper to check the "park" feature part of the motor. My next move was to either replace the wiper intermittent relay for $50 or the $200 wiper switch. Embarrassingly I re-scrutinized the switch and saw a broken piece of plastic that moved the switch contacts. Well that only cost me three or four days of banging my head on the sidewalk but changing the switch fixed the wipers and my head feels much better.
