Street Wars

Last weekend Midamerica Motorplex in Glenwood IA sponsored an event called "Street Wars" modeled after the Fast and the Furious. They had drag racing, car show, stereo contests, chassis dyno, live music, test and tune, etc. I took Damien the hellfire beast down there to feed on some ricers to carbo-load for the upcoming DE I've got in a couple weeks at the same location. The drag strip is 1/8 mile (for now) and they've got the full xmas tree setup and timing slips and such. For $25 a driver can drag their car as much as they want, challenge other cars or just race for time. If your time dips below 8.5 seconds in the 1/8 mi, they require you to wear a helmet. My first run was for time and was a 9.139 sec time with R/T- .932 (.50 is perfect), 60'-2.182, 330'-6.063, 80.55 mph trap speed. Lots of room for improvement. I made 6 runs or so, the highlight being a showdown with an 80's RX7 with a Chevy V8 stuffed in it with sidepipes and flames painted all over it. He had been there all morning practicing and testing, tuning and such so I though it would be a good matchup. I was only on my 3rd run of the morning but had made good improvements on my R/T and getting the correct rpms to get the perfect hookup on launch--around 3000 rpm to minimize wheelspin. When the tree lit up I held the revs at 3000 and when the 2nd yellow fell I dropped the hammer and imposed the wrath of 270 hell bent-ducktailed-carrera rs-wannabe Porsche ponies on the unsuspecting Mazda RXChev-en abomination. I never saw him again in my periphial vision. It was my best time of the day RT-.591, 60'-2.039, 330'-6.009, 1/8 mi- 8.817 sec. 81.24 mph. I ran a few more runs for time ranging from 8.817 to 9.14. I didn't want to break anything before my DE in two weeks so I shut her down after 6 runs. It was a fun day and made me even more excited the the 2 day Porsche Club event coming up in 8 days. It will be my first DE and I'm looking forward to it.

I can't wait for MAM's DE next week. I just got my T-shirt from Souk, so I'm all set. Hopefully the weather holds up for the event. It will also be my first DE.
