Have a 92 964 with a ringing or slight rattle noise.

Sounds like a little bell being rung -- higher pitched metal on metal.

tracked it down to the cross over pipe in the exhaust between the two headers.

if I press a screw driver to the bottom of the pipe it either diminishes or goes away as long as I hold the screw driver there.

nothing appears loose. Touching anything else does nothing.

not looking forward to messing with the headers...
they are just rusted on and are snapped bolts waiting to happen.
