Question Cab owners: Are all top boot covers the same?

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out which cab boot cover will fit a 1989 cabriolet (power top, tenax snaps). Some have said they all fit, from the early cabs through the 993 cabs. Others mentioned that you need a boot from an 85+ car (??).

Some need the snap locations moved.....if it's a new one then you install them where your studs are.....a used one it's better to adjust the studs.

Adjusting studs means drilling new holes in your sheet metal/top which is why you might consider a new aftermarket boot unless your getting a smashing deal on a used one. Unfortunately the best price on a factory-type cloth top was $525 installed

1983s one year only, uses conventional snap instead of tenax.

There will be no drilling! So, if you buy an after-market boot cover, you have to install the snaps in the canvas yourself?

Anyhow, it looks like I've closed a deal with a fellow Pelican for a factory one that's basically new. What are the odds of it fitting without issue?

Piedogger-

Thanks for the tip!

Really depends on what you are buying. My factory boot has 3 push type snaps across the back, if I remember correctly there are 4 tenex snaps across each side, then there is 1 reg. snap on each side at to front of door top area, then there are more reg. snaps across the bottom, I think 3. I have seen many fact. boots, and all of them have looked the same. It has been a long day.....

Mine has 4 tenax on each side, 2 regular push snaps across the back each about 10" from the 3rd brake light. and a push snap just behind the front door glass and one inside the quarter panel.

Yep you are correct, I was mistaken, there is only 2 push snaps across the back at top, then one, on each side, just behind the door at the top at the cab hinge, mine does have 3 across the bottom, to keep it from flapping I guess, mine is a 2 seater, no rear seats solid flat platform across back. I thiught the spec. sticker was wrong when it said seating cap. 2.

3 snaps across the bottom? between the elastics? Maybe that's what I need to keep my boot from moving around and wearing holes in my headliner!

Hmmm, mine only has two push snaps on the back as well (on either side of the 3rd brake light). I sure hope the boot fits!

The 3 snaps across the bottom front, I guess it would be the back seat area, keeps the boot front from getting air up under it and flapping about. I have seen some that look like a sheet blowing in the wind. All in all, it seems that there is some type of snap about every 8-10 inches all the way around the perimeter of the boot.

Mine has two elastic straps that hook through rings in the seat backs which is the only method I have ever seen even on newer cars. I wonder if someone added the snaps to your car, it seems like a good idea because if I don't raise my seat backs mine fill up with air.

Mine has 2 snaps at the back (one each side of center light) 4 tenax on each side, a snap right behind the window and two elastic straps that hook into rings in the back seat. Mine won't fill up with air when the back seats are in the down position because there is "flap" that drapes into the interior. The elastics will keep it from flapping. Mine is also very snug when fitted. I've seen some that appear looser in fit.

Hi guys - new to the forum and looking high and low for 2 trim pieces for my 1983 911 cabrio....where the boot " push snap just behind the front door glass and one inside the quarter panel" - this is a small plastic trim piece on each side which holds the snaps and covers the hinge. These trim pieces on mine are now being held together with gum and baling wire and I really, really want to find replacements. I just did all new carpets this winter and brand new custom leather seats last month...so now everything that's even slightly worn looks EXCEPTIONALLY crappy.

I welcome any thoughts and by the way, the boot on mine is all push snaps and is held behind the rear seats with the elastics and rings

They're all the same '84 through the 964's. 993's - possibly. I have an '87 and I bought a 964 tonneau cover on eBay. I was fretting fitment until the thing actually arrived.

Fits like a glove.

I love the tonneau vs. the boot cover, BTW. It lets you keep the back seat (or even passenger seat if you're solo) covered to keep stuff out of the sun/wind.

As stated earlier 1983 is a one year only boot. Also if your car was not fitted with a tonneau cover factory you need the snaps on the dash and there is different trim on the door glass (with snaps)

Mine is the original top and boot cover. two elastic straps to keep it from flapping - I have the original tonneau cover too - with the tonneau snaps in place...

...unfortunately, no. Also unfortunately, we're a few months away from topless season here in the great white north, so pics aren't likely forthcoming any time soon.

Tonneau looks pretty much the same as the boot cover in normal use. Except that it can cover the entire interior or the same amount as the boot cover, or anything in between. A zipper down the middle lets you keep only the driver seat open if you like that retro-Lemans look.

Unfortunately, that mode also discourages those gorgeous blondes from jumping in your car at red lights.
