Sealing Evaporator Case - 911SC

Hi all, I decided to take apart the fairly decent AC system in my 83 911 in quest of an excellent AC system - good news is only mild regrets so far!

My evaporator box is in pretty rough shape with two of the four clip tabs being broken. I know my limitations with fiberglass and don't know that I could rebuild the two broken tabs well enough to use a screw in place of the factory metal clips.

Has anyone thought about sealing the top to the bottom with strip caulk and drilling a couple strategic holes through the sides of top and bottom halves and safety wiring them together? I think the safety wire would keep the two halves secure (and allow for pretty easy maintenance on fan motor) and the strip caulk would ensure an airtight seal.

I would definitely prefer just to use the screws or clips, but am somewhat limited by the condition of my box and my skills with resin.
