Numeric Racing New shifter (video)

I pre-ordered the new shifter from Numeric Racing and they just sent me a video comparing the stock shifter to their G body shifter.

kid in the video seems not to know why Porsche deliberately designed in some fore-aft spacing in the shift coupler

I don’t know either. Please advise.

I don't see how this shifter is any better than a Wevo or Rennshift.

from the other thread

For those interested, this was their response to my question about the Wevo comparison:

"This comes down to the mechanics of the shifter. In short, if you take a look at the Wevo for example, the pivot points use similar mechanics as the stock shifter (a tightened down pin on both axes). Ours offers ball bearings on both the axes, which eliminates any slop and also no play will occur over time either. Our shifter is referred to as the equivalent as your hand reaching into the transmission and shifting the gears directly."

They will also have a shift lever that looks like the stock shift lever to begin with. The kit includes the Numeric Racing Shifter, Numeric Racing maintenance free shift linkage, Porsche replacement shift rod bushing and Porsche replacement shift lever ball socket (Part #: 91142413900)

Or the reason there are gates to contain the spring force on the stock shift tower.......

I seem to recall reading the elongated holes were to reduce vibration transfer from the transmission.

coupler style

The Porsche style coupler has play to prevent gear disengagement from chassis flex or motor mount movement.Remember our cars designers have some pretty good engineers working for them.Lets think about the scenario of cooking through a turn in 3rd and catching a bump and the gear selector goes to neutral.Whoa baby.

I had heard that the play was there on purpose but I couldn't remember why. Good to know. My question is the probability of disengagement due to chassis flex on spirited driving vs the benefits of a tighter shifter. Does our chassis flex that much (non-racing application)? I'm not sure how much this was over engineering by the original engineers vs a very real, practical problem they were trying to solve. I never liked the play that the stock shifter has, or even the Wevo that I currently have. With other cars being a lot tighter on shifting, not sure why they just didn't have less flex in the chassis. Why do other cars not deal with this? Meaning, instead of finding a solution for the symptom, why not solve the problem to begin with?

We have tested these on several different cars and not a single problem for any extra transmission noise being transmitted.

Every coupler offered on the market eliminates this play, and that has not been a concern for 15 years. Also, it takes over 20lb of force to shift from gear into neutral at the shift coupler. If you're having that kind of unexpected force being applied, I think being put into neutral is the least of concern.

Wait for the reviews and you won't think that for long.

I have no doubt, most all the aftermarket bushings I've seen are round and not elongated and haven't heard of any complaints.

Really like the adjustable reverse lockout feature on this unit, that is a problem with the Rennshift I am running now. Must ease out of 5th to avoid reverse. The adjustment procedure would have been nice to be included in your video.

Nice to see new products being developed for our old cars. We should all be thankful there is a big enough market for this. My friend is into classic English cars and the aftermarket parts either don't exist or are super low quality and fall apart in short order, if they even fit in the first place.

Would like to see a G50 version.

I hope your reviews are as advertised! I also hope your installation instructions are better than Rennshift as I'm still trying to fine tune mine and not thoroughly happy with it!

I think he knows that. He wants one with a shift lever that looks like a stock lever. I imagine he wants his car keep the stock Porsche look but have the improved performance of a better shifter design.

Problem solved
