Numeric Racing New shifter (video)
I pre-ordered the new shifter from Numeric Racing and they just sent me a video comparing the stock shifter to their G body shifter.

kid in the video seems not to know why Porsche deliberately designed in some fore-aft spacing in the shift coupler

I don't see how this shifter is any better than a Wevo or Rennshift.

I seem to recall reading the elongated holes were to reduce vibration transfer from the transmission.

coupler style
The Porsche style coupler has play to prevent gear disengagement from chassis flex or motor mount movement.Remember our cars designers have some pretty good engineers working for them.Lets think about the scenario of cooking through a turn in 3rd and catching a bump and the gear selector goes to neutral.Whoa baby.

I had heard that the play was there on purpose but I couldn't remember why. Good to know. My question is the probability of disengagement due to chassis flex on spirited driving vs the benefits of a tighter shifter. Does our chassis flex that much (non-racing application)? I'm not sure how much this was over engineering by the original engineers vs a very real, practical problem they were trying to solve. I never liked the play that the stock shifter has, or even the Wevo that I currently have. With other cars being a lot tighter on shifting, not sure why they just didn't have less flex in the chassis. Why do other cars not deal with this? Meaning, instead of finding a solution for the symptom, why not solve the problem to begin with?

Really like the adjustable reverse lockout feature on this unit, that is a problem with the Rennshift I am running now. Must ease out of 5th to avoid reverse. The adjustment procedure would have been nice to be included in your video. |
Nice to see new products being developed for our old cars. We should all be thankful there is a big enough market for this. My friend is into classic English cars and the aftermarket parts either don't exist or are super low quality and fall apart in short order, if they even fit in the first place.

Would like to see a G50 version.
