Now Fuel Pressure tests are solid. Residual pressure stronger then spec. Slight exception on Control Pressure which may be little low at 15 psi?

Cleaned all the plugs and car started up strong, many times starting and restarting no problem as I dialed it all in.. Able to set timing, mixture and idle.

Thank you all very much for your guidance!

Marc,

You could have avoided all these CIS troubleshooting work if you tested the FD, WUR, FA, etc. before attempting to run the engine. If you did the basic tests for these CIS components before hand, you could have discovered the problem/s well ahead of time. Anyway, the good thing is that you have now found the culprits of your no start dilemma.

If your WUR is newly rebuilt, why is the cold control pressure out of spec? Something is not right with your newly rebuilt WUR. You should not be adjusting or tinkering it if it was correctly tested and calibrated. Check with the rebuilder.

You did a good job locating the culprits and correcting the problem. Next time you do a start up specially with many newly rebuilt CIS components, do a fuel pressure test (control, system, and residual) with all fuel injectors removed. A properly set up CIS engine should NOT deliver fuel with just the fuel pump running. If it did, you got a big problem. Congratulation and enjoy the driving experience.

Hi Tony, Yes, lesson learned. As a beginner, I followed Waynes book to the letter on the engine rebuild. Had it said to do a fuel pressure test before attempting to start it, I definitely would have.

If I can bother you experts with one more issue before I do a more general post. Would you take a listen to the motor in this video. I don't remember hearing the slight rattling on the initial 20 minute break in, but after the oil change, it sounds different with a bit of this rattle? I've learned my lesson and will not guess, but ask here. Could be normal for all I know.

Any feedback appreciated:

assuming this..
you new chain rails and they are in in the correct direction.
Your chain tensioners are new
you have checked all the supply squirt holes on oil delivery for the rockers

Marc, remove the alt.belt and then make another video..Also to pinpoint it better use a long screwdriver and touch particular place with one end and the other to your wrist and ear...or if you have stethoscope...
your valve adjustment could be a little lose but not the problem

Do you have the shims on the chain gears in the right place and directions?I hear grinding ...on right side

Ivan

otherwise sounds as a very strong engine...

Thank you Ivan,
I do believe everything is assembled correctly. I'll be able to perform and post a new video of the test without the fan belt early next week. Thanks again and have a good weekend.

Hi, As Ivan suggested, I removed the fan belt and made another video to hear the sound better. I notice too, without the fan blowing air around, that there must be an oil drip somewhere because there is some smoke. I will further look into that. But I hope this video can help get some advice on the rattling or grinding sound? I tried to isolate it with a stethoscope, checking the timing chain housings and the valve covers, and many other spots but I had no luck pinning it down. Please let me know if you guys suspect anything...

Thanks,
Marc

For me, it sounds like rubbing..I would probably take off the chain housing covers and look for the chain rails...alignment...To make sure they are pushed onto the pins all the way.....
