My current plan is to keep the axles in the car and replace one inner CV and boot and the other boot. I disassembled both CV's and one had a slight waviness to the "polished" contact areas. The other had smooth polished areas with no pits. Kerosene is the thing to use before taking the CV's apart. The CV balls/etc. come apart easily and are easy to reassemble. CV/etc. ordered from our host.

Update - when working on this under the car the CV can "fall apart". I used small tie wraps to hold the greased CV together while tapping it back on to the shaft. Soaked the boots in 303. That's about all I can do for them.
