Need a hard to find part, looking for leads or salvage yards
*****UPDATE: Someone very capable reached out to me and made one from a mold using his own striker plate as the master. I am very grateful to this generous Pelican for the work he put into this copy. It is truly a one of a kind masterpiece. I hope I can pay it forward somehow to somone in the future. Pictures posted at the bottom of the thread.
![]() ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** I've posted a WTB ad in the classifieds here as well as early911sregistry. No luck. I also contacted LA dismantler and a couple other "salvage" yards who I thought would have it. None of them replied probably because its not worth their time. It is such a small part. I am looking for the glove box door striker of a early-ish 911. Mine is a 71. I think it is a 70-73 part. I thought of having one made but I do not even have a template and figured this would not be so difficult. Part #12 ![]() ![]()

Maybe try Gary Emory @ parts obsolete?
He bought all the remaining inventory from Jim at EASY when he retired. Good luck. -Dave

Neither of those places have it. Although I emailed DCAutomotive just in case.

Thank you, but his website seems to be down. Do you have an email or contact info by chance?

Crap. I was at LA Porsche Dismantler this past weekend. If you can nail down which years use this same exact part, it may help. It seemed like most of the chassis carcasses I saw were later/water-cooled cars. But there was at least one crumpled (Kiln Red?) G-body in the yard.

I can get one, but not sure how to make one or who to contact to get it 3d printed. Maybe there is a service, I'll google it.

Much of what DC Automotive on the shelf is not listed on their web site. They have an enormous amount of early stuff. Not all of it is pristine, could be functional but needing cosmetic restoration
Call them. |

I would make one if you have some scrap metal lying around (and tools) If you need the real thing, You might want to try Automobile Atlanta, they mostly deal in 914 parts but might have a few 911 small parts kicking around. Also, check to see if it's not a part used on VW bugs.. then your search just got easier.

If you can design one or scan one you can have it printed through 3D hubs or shapeways- both online 3D printing services.

Retro Automotive Parts in New Hamshire is my "go to" place for hard to find early Porsche parts. Very friendly folks with good prices normally.

Make one.
Find a short piece of bar stock of the correct thickness at a hardware store. Drill a couple holes. See if the thickness is enough to catch the beveled hook on the lock mechanism. That can be a temporary fix until you can source a real factory piece. I did the same thing for the secondary catch on the frunk lid that was missing when I bought my car in 2001. Never have gotten around to sourcing the factory piece. Good luck! |
