Sometimes I have high levels of Contempt
for freaking YOUTUBE!
I was watching some detailing videos recently and I some random guy using his drill a 3 in polishing pad and some plastic polish to polish his instrument gauges..... couldn't get it out of my head........ seems so easy... but it couldn't be could it? YOUTUBE strikes again! Soooo today.... took 30 min, my drill, a 3 inch polishing pad, some plastic polish....... and I polished my gauges...... was super easy and what a difference! Dull, faded, scratched, 40 plus year old faces got a nice facelift and I am super happy with the results! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1617756705.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1617756705.jpg |

They look great! I had to have my tach repaired a while back and they cleaned it as part of the repair. Now the rest of my gauges look like crap. Can you share the process or direct us to the video?
Also, I always thought the gauge bezels were glass... No? |
Quickstep12,
For the life of me I can't remember the youtube video name. BUT.... its super easy.... a 3in. Pad fits perfectly inside the gauge face, put a peanut size of polish on the pad, middle and push the product to the outside rim of the pad. Place drill in the middle of the gauge and pull the trigger. Go SLOW and check your work as you go along, I was nervous so I went super slow. The faces don't seem to be very hard so the cutting the polish does the work quickly, right to the edge because you put the product to the edge. Take a micro fiber cloth and wipe off the residue.... took about 3-4 minutes per gauge. My fuel vauge was in sorry condition, I recently had my clock refurbished and they left it pristine so I wanted to even them up. Im so glad it did. They aren't brand new BUT what difference. For only a few min stressful minutes. |
Everytime GF goes to the optometrist's they give here containers of lens cleaner.
They made the gauges look AMAZING. |
Bill.... that may have been alot easier! Wish I would have known!

Sorry :( My fault hehe. I guess I didn't mention it because it wasn't technical enough. |
It's crazy what an orbital can do to a bunch of plastic, glass, and painted surfaces.

Bill,
I was only kidding..... It took me only a few minutes and I really enjoy tinkering....... |
that looks awesome, thanks for sharing!
