Porsche Is Selling Crankcases for 1984-1998 911s

Is this true, or fake news?

It's true. Here's a link to the PCA announcement.

So it's NOS. Thought they were newly produced. Also is $7500 a real number?

Sounds like that’s real. Not sure why outfits like Singer wouldn’t just buy all 100 at that price.

Someone posted on one of the Facebook pages about sourcing a 964 crankcase on Partslink24. I started googling around to find info on prices. They eluded to the price being around half of what the ones mentioned above were. I didn't find anything on what Partslink 24 has them for but several of the usual online sellers have them listed for why seems to be dirt cheap. What am I missing here?

I don’t know but I just ordered one as spare. $900 plus tax with free shipping is too good to pass up if NOS.

They are complete 964 cases? Would be worth buying and putting on the shelf if it’s real

Seems so but many other vendors show them for the same price give or take $100.

SO they are! Hmmm....

Too good to be true I'd say... and since when does a part number end in 7R? That's odd.

I found a description of this part as "KURBELGEHAEUSEHAEL" which translates to crankcase holder, as opposed to "KURBELGEHAEUSE" which is crankcase.

Still, for $1000 where do I line up?

Yeah this isn't real.

The REAL price was like even more than I originally said. I think it was like $12,000 ish. This is the price I got when I checked with my local dealer as well as Bucky at Luft at the Porsche Classics Parts display.

I called PP and they said the pricing is a mistake. Weird that all the dealerships are showing it for sale. I tried to order one from Sunset but good chance they’ll cancel order

Reminds me of how I got my brand new Carrera crankcase....deal of the century.

It was literally back in 2005 on EvilBay and I happened to see a brand new case, complete with studs and new Carrera oil pump.... no bids.

I threw on a stink bid of $1000 and forgot about it, only to have the seller contact me privately saying that it had not made his reserve and was I still interested?

Sure says I....how much do you want?

$1200 for everything, plus I pay shipping.

Still nervous it was a scam, I telephoned the guy, turned out he bought a Lotus dealership and this case and parts were on one of the shelves and he wanted to get rid of it. The address checked out so off went my money and a few weeks later it showed up.

Perfect, no serial number, never used....it's now going into my car.

I checked with the dealer to see what kind of steal I got and he said (then) that they were unavailable but in the parts book at around $10k US.

All I can think of is sometimes I'm lucky...but it is awfully nice to have case which has never been used.

Hope Porsche puts them back into production, lots of guys around these lists would happily shell out for a case that they know is as good as it's ever going to get.

D.

PS - got a new Turbo oil pump the same way...

I got a new 3.2 case through Henry a few years ago - they were $6500 or so.

This is the post that got me searching last night. Does anyone have a Partslink24 login. It's a paid subscription access website.
