Recommendations on shop to refurbish gas tank

Good morning.

I have a gas tank from a 71 that I would like to restore. No visible rust but the tank itself could use a good coat of paint and possibly slosh something around in the tank for cleaning. Normally I would attempt myself but time and cold weather outside make it easier to ship it somewhere and have it professionally done.

Thanks in advance.

Any radiator shop should be able to "hot tank" a metal gas tank, which should leave it spotless (Assuming there isn't a plastic sump/baffle like in my 3.2 tank, as it wouldn't survive the process). Then you could go any number of routes on exterior finish.

I had these guys do a 911SC tank: Moyer Fuel Tank Renu - antique gas tank repair restoration, classic car gas tanks GASTANK

They cut it open, cleaned out all the rust, welded it back together and painted inside and out. Very nice job but you do end up with a visible weld seam.

I spoke with a local radiator shop and mentioned the plastic swirl pot. Their response was that it would be fine and that the acid used ships in plastic containers. I'm still hesitant to go ahead with it though.

Price out new tanks before you ship your 50 year old tank cross country to be cleaned..

I already have a new Danske tank. I want to get the old tank back to new though. I believe it's the better of the two.
I'm just not sure the radiator shop knows for sure the swirl pot will survive their treatment. The shop is local btw.

Be VERY VERY careful who you use if you go the radiator shop route. I used a well-recommended local shop. The tank itself and plastic swirl pot came out great. However the threaded in and out fittings were totally destroyed. Looked like gnarled stumps. Tank rendered useless.

I'm thinking about just flushing the sh** out of it with degreaser or soap and water, per the below Youtube video. Then having a look inside. My tank is not that bad. There is a lot of sediment but it's not really rusty. It's currently getting the exterior surface rust media blasted off.
