Guess the color
Apparently Porsche doesn't do COA anymore unless you bring the car to them and my 72 project doesn't move by itself and won't until after repaint and rebuild. This presents a chicken/egg problem for guessing the original color. I suspected Irish green but this photo has me wondering if it is viper/emerald. Any advice on finding the color for the VIN that doesn't involve flat bedding the chassis 200 miles to the local COA offering dealer?

Hard to say from that photo. If it wasn’t special ordered, I’d say Conda or Viper.

No ID plate in the driver's door jamb?

I'm guessing you don't have the door jamb plate (driver's side door jamb by the hinge) with a stamped color code since that would be too easy!
you could try searching here or early911sregistry with the VIN to see if any previous listings for the car included the paint code or name. there are also some folks on the early911sregistry site that are able to look up car info by VIN, so they might be able to help. |

If the inner paint is proved to definately be original , maybe you could borrow a couple of sample card things from a paintshop or paint suppliers to do a check ?

One of the best places to find original paint is under the dash pad.

You can still get the color from Porsche. What you want to order is the Porsche Production Specification. It costs about $100, and has color info: https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/porscheservice/vehicleinformation/
You only need to bring the car in (and pay the big dollars) for the Classic Technical Certificate, which would confirm matching numbers. Mark

Count me as Viper green as well.
I have a 72 that is Viper Green and it looks more closer to this. (on the PC screen at least)
