Missed opportunity (timing sux)

I've been working on the wife for two weeks about a 76 930 that needs a little cosmetic work but is fine mechanically and is priced real cheeeeep.

15 minutes ago she finally gave in and said fine, go get it. As long as I don't have to hear about that {darn} car anymore.

I giggled like a school girl as I looked up the ad. Yup, you guessed it, gone. I hate being me sometimes.

the bright side is it will be easier next time I find a killer deal, and I wasn't looking forward to selling my SC. No way could I keep both, I don't have the room for them.
I need to go drive my SC now so I can get those turbo thoughts out of my head.

Sam why have you not done the obvious: turbocharge the SC? Comon, a Holley 4 barrel, a junkyard turbo, and some duct tape, dude.

A '76 Turbo??? Don't be too sure that your SC isn't the better overall car...

I'm with Paul, a '79 would have been another story, unless it was really cheap. How much?

I spent mucho time in a 76 (before my 79). It was reliable and more fun than a stock SC in my opinion. I think in this case what is better depends on what you want. My next car wouldn't be another turbo though, why have two? I'd probably get a 72-73 911 T and make it into an RS clone.

Hey Sam,
Was that the one that needed the minor front end work? I think it was priced at $11K right?

no need to worry...look at RFNG he will have a turbo for the SC pretty soon...I'm sure you've put alot of time, effort, love and money into the SC...why give it up? if you want more power, read RFNG's post on the turbo...this is how I will be going if needed...right now I'm just happy owning a Porsche 911SC...

The data in the CD-type disc decodes easily into ASCII computer text as follows, using 8 bit binary:
*
"Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts & their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. (Damaged Word). There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. Conduit CLOSING (BELL SOUND)”
*
The damaged word would appear to be intended as “BELIEVE”.

Gotta love it. No truer words ever spoken. Unless you are buying a Lexus sedan or a luxury Jaguar.

Better yet, buy her a big fat diamond ring. At least 1.75 to 2 carats. She will wear it everywhere and get compliments by all her girl friends. You are pretty much set for future purchases thereafter.

LOL! My wife wants to get a new Lexus SUV, and I cringe everytime I hear the word "SUV."
And "NEW."
And "LEXUS."

Nooooooooooo!! Can't we get another old 911? I swear, it's practical, honey!

I think we share the same wife.

Not to turn this into a ***** session but have you ever heard the following?:

"I just don't understand why you want someone else's old worn out car. Why do you want something old. Why don't you get something new. Like a Lexus or a Jaguar?"

Yep, that's the 930 I was going to go check out. I bet I could have got it for $10k, it supposedly had a fresh total rebuild of the engine 5000 miles ago.
Over the past several years I've specialized in dragging home Porsches that are not exactly concours condition and then doing the little stuff to bring them back to life, this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Three years ago drug home a pretty yellow 914 that barely ran and smoked like a Hibachi.

Two months later it was running with, here's the ironic part, a junk yard turbo and a weber side draft carb. It would have been a better story if it was a 4 bbl carb, but I figure that's close enough.

The problem with doing the same to my SC is that it is a very reliable car and runs great, I hate to tinker with it. I'd rather start with something that isn't quite as nice. I can jump in the SC and go anywhere any time and not worry about relability. Right or wrong, in my over-rationalizing head that makes more sense

BTW I snagged the SC for cheeeep, the seller thought the engine was bad because it didn't run well and smoked real bad when it got warm.

New plug wires, a tune up, and a set of oil return tubes and valve cover gaskets and it ran like a champ. He got a quote to rebuild the engine and dumped the car. Gotta love them uninformed POs.
