pertronix vs msd

Has anyone looked at the pertronix "second strike" multiple spark ignition. This might be a viable alternative to the MSD 6A & MSD 6AL.

The pertronix website says that the multiple spark feature is good throughout the entire rpm range and the output will work for "modern tachs"

Good luck,
David Duffield

Looks interesting, is it a new product? Ive heard some reliabilty storeis with the pertronix ignitors.

Ive had MSD boxes on my cars for years and they seem kind of bullet proof

I'm with Tim on this one..

I've had great reliable performance from the MSD.. then again, a big west coast wrench says he's had a few new MSD 6al failures.. so I'm installing the MSD marine unit now.. it costs noticably more

The Crane HI6 is worth a look as well. All install instructions are on line and phone support is good. I'm using the optical trigger, HI6 CD and LX92 coil. Mounting is a bit difficult as the unit is twice the size of the stock CD.

To Ron's point I also keep a spare XR3000 in the car. Trigger, ignition box and coil, ready to swap in if I lose ignition. I've got 3-5 hour drives to DE events and have been left stranded twice in the past few years.

pertronix ignitor

put a pertronix in (from pelican) and have an msd 6al and it works great. turned the key and the engine started immediately when we installed the pertonix. adjusted to the timing and runs great, with a better low end range and it is very quick to 6k
