Lithium Portable Car Starters

Does anyone have experience / knowledge of these? The technology has improved so much on them that they're approaching the "too good to be true" category. Up to 20 starts from one charge???

And of course lithium batteries are potentially dangerous in high temperatures. They do warn you about not storing them in temperatures above 95° because the battery can swell. Makes it a little impractical to carry one in the car unless you live in Newfoundland.

I'm kind of tentatively carrying one at the shop with warnings but I would feel comfortable with a little more knowledge. There must be millions of them out there and I haven't heard of any exploding or catching on fire.

Thanks,
John

I have had a cheap one on my 71 targa for years. Used a few times to jump start the car. Never had a problem with them.

Certainly one of those things you want in your tool kit.

I have one. Never had to use it. I kept it in my truck because it had a slow drain which I've since rectified. It is remarkable that even after sitting in my bag o' tools I carry with it that it still says it's fully charged after 6 months without ever being charged.

I have the GB40 pictured. I've used it more on the bench for testing components (and charging cell phones at the beach) than anything else. The one time I needed it to jump a completely flat battery in an old Jaguar, it barely turned it over.
