Retaining heat lever 1967 901 Wevo Install
Hi All,
Long time lurker, first time poster: I have owned 1967 911 306455 for decades. After reading all the recommendations of the Wevo shifter, and since I am in the middle of a transmission refresh I opted to purchase the Wevo 901 shifter and precision coupler. I was able to purchase a nice 915 shifter here on Pelican’s parts forum. Here lies my issue, the original 901 shifter housing has the heat lever directly in front of the shifter and is part of the 901 shifter. I called Wevo on Friday and spoke with a really nice gal who was not sure if they sold or new of any kind of adapter to keep the stock heat lever on a 67. She said she was the only one in the office at that time and recommended I call back on Monday to speak with someone else on this matter. I am hoping someone on this forum has crossed this path and might have a solution. I am curious if anyone has modified the 915 shifter housing to accept the 67 heat lever I am definitely going to call Wevo tomorrow to see what they say. I guess in my exuberance to have the Wevo install I did not think through all the possible issues. I know custom parts bring custom problems. Thanks in Advance David |

Hi All,
I left a message with WEVO this morning, still waiting on them to circle back. I thought for sure that my post would of blown up with do your homework first comments. I know my post is definitely a unicorn question, but I am hoping someone has been down this road with their shifter install and could chime in. Either way I will reply with what WEVO recommends once I hear back from them, so anyone in the future can use this post as a resource . Thanks Again David Last edited by David67; 11-04-2019 at 08:57 AM.. |

I don't have an answer to your question, but I will say that Hayden at Wevo has been very helpful and responsive in my experience.
Just out of curiosity, if you bought a 915 shifter, how are you going to deal with the reverse lockout, since reverse is in different places on the 901 and 915?

I have done this: There is a weltmister aluminum short shift 13mm spacer plate that can be bolted below the 915 shift tower that allows the corner to be milled out to hold the mount plate of the lever. Leave the studs and indent for the locating bump that is on the 901 shifter base. Cut a slot on the front of the 915 mounting to allow the heat lever to be in the previous position and add - weld an extension on the bottom of the lever - about 25mm with a hole for the heater cable to be below the shift lever tube. Remember the lever knob unscrews so the slot doesn't need to be huge. If you are using the Wevo you will probably not be adding additional length to the shift arm and not using that weltmister spacer. so you are on your own to do the necessary mods to the 915 shift base and the 1967 heater lever bottom length. Good Luck. |

Thank you for your reply. I knew someone had to of brained /engineered this solution before. Wevo is now making a solution to my problem. They call it the swb 2016 shifter. It is not currently on their website. Below is a screen shot of the picture Wevo`E-mailed me. I initially thought it a little pricey at $895 but when I broke it down with the cost of the Wevo shifter, cost of the 915 shifter, rubber boot, and the cost to customize the 915 shifter to accept my heat lever, its actually a bargain. Shout out to Tracey at Wevo she has been a tremendous help. This new shifter should ship next week. I will try and post some pictures and give you an impression of the install. On a side note I will be selling the 915 shifter on the used parts forum if anyone is in need of one

Hi All, I am having trouble loading the picture of the swb 2016 shifter into my post. It was in a link from Wevo. I will try and load some pictures of the shifter when it arrives.
Thanks Again |

I did the same thing as Fleming on my 901 trans. I'm a big fan of the wevo stuff.

I am assuming WEVO has put their same magic into this 901 shifter bodied set up. I will post some pictures when I get it and circle back with a review. Curious how close to stock look their shifter actually is.

If that WM spacer used, that changes the distance between the WEVO shift lever and the shift tube. Should be able to fabricate a mount for the heater lever on the shifter w/o the spacer; or fabricate a mount so the lever mounts onto the tunnel.

Hi All,
Been happy with the Wevo swb shifter. Love that it maintains the look of the original shifter body with no need to buy a 915 shifter and no need to modify the 915 body to retain the heat lever . Only gripe is there is no reverse lockout ( my mechanic called Wevo to confirm) I have gotten over the initial pucker of 2nd to 3rd without the lockout assurance. Love the tight no slop shifting this product gives your existing 901 transmission. |

Hi David,
I was just researching the Wevo short shifter for use in my 1965 912. I’m happy I found this thread! Are you still happy with the 2016 SWB 901 shifter? Does it actually not have the reverse lockout? Sounds like a great solution overall. I want one! Cheers, Michael |
