Stuck in reverse : permanent fix

Hi all,

I have been in stuck in reverse a few times and hence know the trick with the reverse light pin too well. I've searched and read a lot and want now to permantely solve it. Take the gearbox out and then.......

That is where I didn't find too much info. Yes I have the Wevo shifter and coupler installed correctly on my 915.

Can someone advice who solved it pemanently?

Thanks in advance!

Joost

Remove the 4 bolt inspection cover
The fork on the inside of the cover needs to be tight to the cover. If loose, replace the cover
Inside the fork the selector runs the different gear selections
You should be able to line the 3 notches up with a screwdriver then reinstall the firm inspection plate

There are two tap in plugs on the outside of the cases. One on the diff housing and one on the center housing. Pry them out and see if you can fish a detent out with a skinny magnet. Usually it's the one in the center housing where the detent slid out of position when it was apart last tme and the mechanic didn't notice before installing it and now sits above the shift rod instead of under it.

Thanks for the quick replies! Will get started next weekend and keep you all posted.

BTW, the reverse shift rod is not available through the inspection cover hole. You can see the end of it, but you can't grab it. That's why you have to resort to pushing in the back up switch pin to dislodge reverse.

Hi All,

so the gearbox was opened and we found both the gear selecter @the inspection hole hooked out as well as the lever not hooked into the reverse gear shaft. Hence we slightly rotated the shaft to prevent and the gear hooking out:

As you, John, suggested we have checked the two detents in the diff & center housing and they were positioned correctly.

The reverse gear was set too high (worst case could even touch the housing) we have positioned it a bit lower:

The detent ends were a bit worn (not on the pic) and hence we have made the detent a tiny bit longer and the bush new and bit narrower so the detent has less play in the new bush.

The box goes back in today and hopefully this is my last post on reverse gear ;)

Thx for all the tips!

Joost
