Odometer repair

What is the best way to open up a Porsche speedometer? I need to replace the plastic odometer drive gear and would like to avoid damaging the sealing ring. I'm familiar with the speedo insides, just need some help getting it open and then closed up.

Thks!

I used a small screwdriver and GENTLY opened the back side of the bezel. When reinstalling I put electrical tape around the jaws of my pliers and pinched it back closed.

Here's a thread. Read post 2

I haven't done the following myself as I sent mine out for repair, but a good ol' engineer friend (unfortunately now deceased - and greatly missed) recommended putting a large hose screw clamp on the can and close to the bezel, and use the clamp edge to wedge a screwdriver tip in to provide a larger surface area for gently pushing the ring off. This may help minimize deforming the ring and keeping a more original look when all is done.

Good luck with the repair!
