My new GHL arrived! Install question.

Single in Dual out (bought from our host) arrived.

Quick question:

The tips are not connected to the muffler. They have slits going about two inches down the pipe from the end that mates to the muffler.

How are you supposed to attach these? Just push them on?

Thanks.

There is supposed to be a clamp, kind of like a hose clamp but bigger/beefier.....at least that's what mine has.....

Marc is correct; there should be a high quality aircraft-style clamp supplied for this purpose. Don't run without it!

Yes there were a couple of metal clamps (like the ones that go on a hose) that have the screw that you tighten and it pulls the strap tight. I just wondered if this would create a point of leaking or not and will it be secure? I do not think there is anything else to hold the pipe on with.

Thanks guys. I just thought the clamps looked like they would allow some exhaust leak, but I guess not.

This is what they look like.

The tips are decorative, any leakage should not be of any concern. The clamp on tips allows for you to replace the tips if you back into anything and screw one up.

PDACPA, The GHL single in dual out connected to a cat by pass pipe IS GOING TO BE WAY LOUD!! I Have a GHL cat by pass with a single in dual out, & it is very LOUD. If your using a Euro cat you should be ok. The seam on my muffler blew apart a few weeks ago, & GHL sent a new muffler, tip, clamps. & gasket, Postage paid by them with in 10 days. I asked them to replace the muffler with a single out & it sounds just right for my taste. Bad & nasty at idle, but it doesn't set off car alarms at high rpm. Oh, by the way pick up 2 long bolts to start tightening the muffler clamps to the muffler hanger. The bolts that GHL includes are not long enough to pull the clamp around the muffler the first time.
Enjoy your new muffler, Craig

Craig

I sent you a pm but hope your a little wrong on the sound side! I ordered the Euro premuffler in hopes of keep the sound down. I want the dual out look with more aggressive sound, but without the screaming loud sound. Guess I am going to find out!

I might put the muffler on just to compare stock with stock cat and GHL and then premuffler and GHL.

Sarah - just dropped the rear valance and I had two fiberglass vented rears made which were also dropped at the paint shop. Get this..the color match (I have Guards Red) name in their computer is Dale Jarrett Red???????? I told him this is not a Nascar as he could well see HAHA!

The vents gave me some weight savings and allowed me to modify them as opposed to my original parts. This way I have all the original parts, rear quarters and valance (bought one off a fellow Pelican), and will keep the original cat and muffler.

I think I might need a new shed to store my old stuff.

PDACPA,

Where did you get those vents? Very nice. I'll be interested in the results of your exhaust endeavors since I too have an 89 3.2 Carrera. I run a euro-premuff with a Fabspeed single in dual out sport muffler...looks great and sounds awesome, albeit pretty loud under load (is that a bad thing?). I'll be interested in your opinions of performance. I'm not sure I gained anything in terms of hp. Recently added an Autothority MAF and I'm still not impressed with any substantive gains.

Thanks,

I need to look at my receipts. Bought them a year ago. I want to say BetterBodies. A guy on here or Rennlist had them. I thought they looked neat, different and subtle...not boy racer.

If i come across the receipt I will let you know. They were fairly inexpensie and the paint guy said it was good fiberglass work. Paint is $135 for the two rears and valance.

Ummm, that's my car. It's an old pic.

The vented extensions came from Imagine Auto. They also painted them for me. The last time somone asked Stephan he said they were NLA.

JDaniel, you are right that its your car. You gave me the link to Imagine Auto and they were not making them. I cannot find the invoice from where I got mine, but I did track someone down to make them and I think they used that photo of yours.

Sorry for using your car's photo, but mine are in the paint shop.
