battery switch
 

Hi Guys,
I have a battery switch like this on my car for a long time, and it works fine. Today, looking at the item online and found that it is rated 500A. Our car is having 850 cracking amp battery. Does that mean if I have problem starting and keep it there cranking for a while, or if I start, turn off, start again, turn off and restart again several times, the switch will be hot and might be melted? lol. The design doesn't look that bad at all. You guys agree?

I think you should be fine. Just because your battery is rated for 850 cranking amps doesn’t mean your starter will actually draw 850 amps (it just means that your battery can supply at most 850 amps). I think most cars draw around 200 amps when cranking.

Those things are probably the worst appliance you can buy. Unscrew the knob and see what poor contact area they have.

really? I didn't pay attention to the contact area when screwing down, but looking at the components/linkages, all surfaces are greater than the battery cable.

I've used those on a couple of my cars, 911 included and I've never had any problems. I clean up the installation by drilling a hole lengthwise into the cable end of the switch. Then I insert the ground cable into the hole and sweat a bunch of solder into it. It makes for a real good connection between the switch and the ground cable.

I have a permanent pig tail on the posts and when I come home I hook it up to my Battery tender, I've have had batteries last as long as long 15 years.
