3D printing files repository?
 

As with just about every other industry and field, 3D printing had been an amazing boon for the Porsche owner. There seems to be no shortage of folks who have seen problems and designed solutions, from NLA parts and tools to ingenious additions for these aging cars.

What doesn’t seem to exist is any central repository of these 3D files where folks can share their work with the community. Certainly hunting a file down from a thread is possible but methinks there must be a better way.

I’m considering building a website repository for community created 3D files but before I invest the energy and time I’d like to see if that’s something to which people would contribute.

Specifically, I’m asking those who have created 3D files if they would be interested in uploading and sharing those with the community.

This is a great idea. However, piggybacking on existing repository hosting tools that have source and version control would be wise, rather than try to reinvent it. I see some Porsche makers have created some groups on THINGIVERSE https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/most-members?q=porsche), though I can't speak to the pros and cons of various hosting tools (version control, search ability, etc.) for 3D printing repositories.

Github seems like the most natural, permanent, open source hosting method, but not sure it's well organized for non-technical folks to use.

I would think that other car enthusiasts that have paved the way for 3D repositories, no?
