headlight relay mounting
I have an early car (1973) and am wondering where a good place to mount the add-on headlight relays would be?
On the later cars, you can put the stock type relays into the unfilled relay mounts, but that won't work on my car... Thanks! |

I have 3 extra relay mounts on my 73 but I used the icecube type relays.I think I ended up using the bolts just above and to the front and back of the fusebox.
I don't have pics of my car but where the ground is on this car is where I put one of my relays

yep.. the fuse box area is the routine.. on my '77 I mounted them on the foreward bulkhead, close to the battery, under the hood lip

hey, that's my car!
And that is an SC, not an early car. I used Sucro's kit with the square relays. I don't know that I've seen anyone that used the empty round relay sockets in the fuse block for the headlight relay installation. |

I mounted them (2 each) inside the headlight buckets behind the lights. There is plenty of room with the H4s.

oohh Thanks for the picture nostatic. I pulled it right off of the server "bender"
The biggest thing is that you get components that are rated for enough amperage. I used 30amp hardware.

?? The photo above says it is from a '73 but has a horizontal fuse block. The one on my '73 is vertical and sort of buried deep.
Is the photo correct? |

here's a quick one i just did on photoshop.
use a multimeter or test light to ensure you connect everything properly, i'm not responsible if you use this (disclaimer )i ran all new wiring from the relays (standard 30amp bosch) to the h4 bulbs. i'm using narva 100/130 h4 bulbs, if you goto a high power bulb you'll need to upgrade your bulb sockets or they will melt.

I just buy the factory ones, right here at Wayne & Tom's place.
I think they're about $25 each. Looks real clean when you use the holes in the fuse panel. Not what I did. But should have.

i actually soldered the 10ga. to heavy spade connectors, using the sockets AND 10 guage made it impossible to adjust the lights (to tight behind housing).
ron knows where to get the sockets.......i forget i found some at autozone but the wire was this like a 16ga. which is too thin. cary.......i'm talking of the actuall bulb socket.....the heat generated by the HO bulb melts the socket.
