Just Rebuilt Sunroof, Won't Fully Close
As the title states, I just rebuilt the sunroof due to a broken cable. However, the passenger side (the side I repaired) is not fully closing in the rear. I'd be grateful if someone could tell me what I'm missing or doing wrong.
Thanks ![]() |

I cannot tell from the picture whether the roof panel is actually closed (as far toward the front as it can go), and perhaps you simply need to adjust the height? On my sunroof, there are adjusters on the mounting point for the panel, so that as the panel does it's closed/parked position, the panel rises up into it final position more or less even with the roof itself.
Is the panel not closing or just too low?

The front looks OK. Just the rear on the one side. Where are the adjusters?
Also, this is an 1984 (in case that matters) ![]() ![]() |

I just recently fixed mine so maybe I can help (1984 too).
I have 2 theories: 1. When adjusting sunroof you need to disengage the motor (which you did) then when reinstalling making sure that the sunroof is pushed as far forward as possible before reengaging motor. It could be slightly misaligned. 2. If you only changed 1 cable, it could be that the new one is slightly different from the old and as such not have the exact same length, resulting is a slight misalignment. My mechanic suggested I get 2 new cables to avoid such an issue as he says it's possible that the old cables have stretched a bit. (I ended up fixing the old one instead) |

roof adjust
The original cables had a plastic end. They would break.Replace both with metal type. Then slide the roof all the way back with the transmission out then reinstall it.A little lube on the guides helps.I have done a few hundred and this works .Ciao Fred

The roof panel looks like it is fully close. But it looks like the rear corner height adjustment needs to go higher. There is a ribbed height adjuster ring at each rear corner of the roof panel. The rings allow you to raise and lower each corner of the roof panel so it is on plane with the roof of the car body.

Make sure the part that actually does the raising is adjusted correctly and tightened enough to hold but not too tight so it doesn't swivel into position.
If it is all the way up when closed and turning the ribbed height adjuster ring doesn't get you there, maybe a shim washer placed between the lift part and the panel will get everything to the correct height.
