Paint correction appreciation thread
Hey all, just had my black 86 paint corrected and wanted to share the stunning results here. The car was repainted by some previous owner and had accumulated the usual swirl marks over the years. Had a long conversation and many questions for the “guru” about how to prevent those going forward.
Before/after of the compounding stage: ![]() Some quarter panel goodness after the polishing stage: ![]() Final results after applying reflex pro as well: ![]() ![]() Those reflections made me notice how terrible my garage looks

Took about a day and he made it into all the nooks and crannies. Best tips for not scratching are to rinse the paint with a pressure washer, soak with a foam cannon and let dwell for a few minutes, rinse the soap off with the pressure washer, and dry with some sort of compressed air (metrovac makes good tools for this). Ideally you’d never have to touch the paint, but when you need to use a wash mitt or towels to dry the paint, make sure that they’re clean (not even dusty) and lightly drag across the surface - do not rub or apply pressure! Drying aids and quick detailers also help with lubricating the surface to prevent swirls when drying with towels. |

Just wondering the ballpark pricing. These days everything is so expensive when someone quoted me 600 for tinting my 911 I knew I was in trouble.

Car looks great. But those shelves, what an incredible collection of chemicals you have there.

for me.... it was super SUPER inexpensive....... $30
2 Products 15.00 each.. (lots and lots and LOTS of research, reading, You-tube videos before deciding to buy this product) it was my 1st paint correction and polish...... complete newbie. the results were OUTSTANDING..... not because of me.... due to the product. it was simple, easy and ULTRA effective. and some garage time.......... i did a complete and UTTER DEEP DETAIL on the car...... inside and outside to a RIDICULOUS level.

wash car pressure washer
de-iron spray, let soak wash car foam cannon wash car Use Polish.... a tiny tiny bit goes an incredible distance. (2 foot space 2 dime size dots on pad) polish it in....... I only used about 5% of the bottle...... maybe 8% of the bottle..... both products will last years i would imagine. Wipe off with fresh dry towel. Take a damp micro-fiber towel and wipe it down. Take a dry micro fiber towel wipe it down and SEE the polish activate to an incredible shine. Spray ceramic wax over small area...... wipe off.... take a damp micro fiber towel wipe it down to activate the ceramic wax, take a dry towel and see it activate...... There are many many videos on youtube reviewing these two Hybrid Solutions Products..... very very very detailed reviews.
Hard to describe how incredible these are....... If you have time and want to make an effort... completely worth it. |

Sounds like my weekend project. My black car looks wonderful from several feet away, but up close has its typical share of swirls

thanks!
i actually was very concerned with burning through the paint (since it was going to be my 1st time at anything remotely close to this......) i ended up using a 3 inch pad and a drill......... yup imagine that. i took my time and really focused into the details......... for the bigger areas like the sides of the doors and hood... i did it by HAND...... total control with no fear of burning the paint..... i did the the entire car like this..... i took a couple of weeks to do it...... a couple hours one night, a hour another night, etc etc. i am STILL working on the smallest of details now...... 2 months later. painted the handle throttle lever and heater lever ![]() ![]() i dont mean to hi-jack this thread... im so sorry. here is a thread where i posted a few pic of the deep detail. The Little Things......... |

All good, glad to see we got a paint correction conversation rolling! I was also terrified of burning through my paint, didn’t trust myself to do it to the 911 but after watching someone else I think I might try it on my daily junker.

If you're using a random orbital polisher and the CORRECT pad and compound you can't do much harm. If you're using a rotary polisher with or without the correct pad and compound you can burn through. Just do some reading on pads, compounds etc and you should be good.
Good looking car btw!

FloydPink.... thank you so much, I was worried, some folks get really sensitive, really thanks.
Sounds like we were on the same page about burning the paint, as suggested I DID do alot of reading and research, nevertheless being my 1st time it was the LONG road and I am 100% ok with that. I learned A LOT about the product and its tendencies and feel.... also learned soooo much about my car. Well worth the time and effort and especially the result. NOW its just maintenance, won't be doing this level of detail for a very long time AND I can keep up this level quite easily. I've learned alot. Feel free to ask questions if you like..... Pre-H20 |

Thanks pre - how much force did you push with when using your drill? I’ve heard it should be hardly any at all, just the weight of the tool, but to me it sounds like that would take forever to cut anything.
What did you use to hand polish? A mf towel or some kind of applicator pad? |
