Front Suspension Question

Hi,

I have a 1977 911 S Targa and recently have refreshed part of the suspension as follows:

- New shocks on all four corners.
- New reach torsion bar bushing ... that was fun

I was able to get the rear ride height correct, after much re-doing however for the fronts, I just turned the adjustment on the front torsion bars to get the ride height I wanted.

In driving the car now though, the front seems a bit bouncy and there doesn't seem to be a lot of "rebound" in the suspension.

In thinking about it, I'm guessing that because I have the adjustment on the front torsion bars at their limit, it is restricting the amount of bounce or give in the torsion bars and it is causing the "bounciness" to the suspension.

My conclusion is that i'll have to take about the front torsion bars and set the ride height at their "default" setting.

Any comments/ideas? Does my conclusion seem correct?

Thanks,

Yes sounds like you will have to reindex the front. There are some good threads here if you haven't searched already. Good news is the fronts are easier to work on than the back. If it's too low, you may want to look into a spacer kit for the steering rack. Also, did you have an alignment done afterwards?

Yes, I did get a wheel alignment done and it made the car a blast to drive

I'll look to reindex the front torsion bars and see how it goes.

Thanks!

You may have done this already, but check out Post No. 18 here: front end raising-lowering adjustment screws

Suggestion to research:
Corner balance & alignment around an agreed upon ride height is the proper procedure to pursue.
