Replacing Cab Top
 

I am looking at replacing the top on my 1990 911 C2 cabriolet and wouldn't mind trying myself - has anyone done one, is it easy, any tips, etc would be appreciated.

Do a search on this, I know it has come up in the past. t is very difficult to get it done correctly.

The people on the Boxster board have had good luck with a company called Gahh (http://www.gahh.com). Looks like the tops for your car range from $300 - $500 - make sure to buy the German canvas, as this is very close to OEM quality.

I'm sure if the guys on the Boxster board can change a Boxster's top (with all it's motors and movable sections), you could probably change a 911's top by yourself.

I was thinking about doing it myself as well. After reading through the BBS, I think it's a difficult process. It's something you pay someone to do for the peace of mind. It's a lot of glueing, stapling and alignment. Experience is very important. If you don't stretch the fabric correctly, there are going to be wrinkles or just rip open the top. The shop charges $500 for the labor with 5 years warranty. I think it's worth the $$$.

I would suggest that you get it done by a good shop. The previous owner had my car done recently, by a pro shop and they still screwed it up because the rear window has wrinkles in it and is not tight.

Ask around the area for a reputable shop.
