smog pump removal - how to do it?

I've managed to disconnect the pipe work and unfasten it from the chain cover but it won't clear the area where it goes through the metal plating that surrounds the engine. Underneath there is a huge nut that I can't even begin to loosen - as the area is too cramped for a decent length wrench. Is this the bit I need to undo to free it? Would it be easier if I removed the sheet metal?

Also while I'm here - does anybody know the correct size replacement studs for an SC that's had the hydraulic tensioner upgrade? I've tried looking at my parts catalogue but there are just too many options for me to work it out.

Thanks for any help.
